Meetings

 

We meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month, except July & August.  Socializing begins and  sales/show table opens at 7pm followed by the meeting at 7:30pm.

The meeting usually begins with business logistics followed by a special lecture or topic.  We end the evening with a review of the show table, which displays blooming orchids brought in by society members.

Apr. 14             Connecticut Orchid Society Monthly Meeting: Speaker Greg Butler from Oak Hill Gardens, Ill. , 7:30 pm, Farmington Senior Center, Unionville, CT.  Visit www.oakhillgardens.com to pre-order plants.  Save on shipping & handling.  There will be plants for sale at the mtg.

April 17            Cheshire Nursery Garden Center Orchid Lecture: Join us for a lecture on basic orchid growing , which will be presented by COS member  Cheryl Mizak at  1:00 pm.  Free admission. 1317 South St., Cheshire, CT.  Call (203) 272-3228  to pre-register for the lecture.

April 24            Riggios Garden Center Customer Appreciation Day: COS member  Debbie Landrey will greet the public and hand out COS literature .  Free admission.  136 Westbrook Rd., Essex, CT . 

April 24            Earth Day New Morning Natural  & Organic Foods : COS  member Mary Rampone will participate in an all day outreach.  Free admission.   738 Main St. South Woodbury, CT . 

Apr. 25             UCONN Reception and Epiphyte Tree Unveiling: Clinton Morse, UCONN Plant Growth Facilities Manager, Dept. of Ecology & Evol. Biology will host a reception party on campus at Storrs, CT in COS’ honor in recognition of 50 yrs. of partnership and construction of the new epiphyte tree.  10:00—2:00 pm.  Admission is free. May 1               The Inn at Weston, VT Bed & Breakfast ‘ Orchids Extravaganza’: Join us for an overnight stay  at a lovely Vermont bed & breakfast owned by Bob Aldrich.  Your stay includes lunch,  an orchid lecture and  tour of Bob’s greenhouse Saturday afternoon followed by dinner.   A Country breakfast will be served Sunday morning.  Space is limited so first come first serve!  $299 double occupancy.   Reservations MUST be made with Cheryl Mizak only.  There is a $150 deposit.  (203) 264-6096.

May 12             Connecticut Orchid Society Monthly Meeting: 7:30 pm, Farmington Senior Center, Unionville, CT.  Presentation by Steve Male of Fishing Creek Orchids. Steve will bring plants for sale.
